Ametrine briolette pair

In the beginning ametrine was shrouded in secrecy. It was back in the early 1980s when it was first found in Bolivia. the trade thought it was treated and the suppliers not wanting to reveal the source kept their mouths shut. Eventually though the secret was out and it was verified that this material is natural and not treated. Its only commercial source is from a mine deep in the Amazon portion of Bolivia. the closest large town is Santa Cruz de la Sierra.
Pair, 7.72 cts, 13x8x6 mm, clean, nice color separation and balance of citrine and amethyst, good matches like this can be difficult to get, $185 drilling adds $14

Gold Pin-Caps for setting our briolettes

Specialty pins with small caps, jump rings and small diameter pins made by us specifically for gem quality drops and briolettes. You won't find these with the big findings companies. Our high quality gem materials require a small pin in order to remain unobtrusive to the nature of the gem. Also our precision ultrasonic drilling allows us to drill smaller less obvious holes than our competition. We have performed multiple tests on different setting methods and have found these pins with an epoxy adhesive to be strong, simple and elegant. These pins are a perfect fit for the holes we drill in large or small brios and drops. Our pin-caps are solid gold throughout unlike what the larger findings houses sell. Shown are two different size pin-caps for 0.020" and 0.028" holes. We cast these in white and yellow 14 karat gold. Contact us for current price.

Namibian Teal Tourmaline

This fabulous material was only available for a very short time in the late 1990s when it made a huge hit at the Tucson Show. The mine was opened by an American friend of mine who got a bright idea to mine the (overlooked) alluvial fans around a known gem pegmatite in Namibia. After a year or two my buddy was shut down under ownership controversy and threats of violence. It seems the main pegmatite dike was owned by a powerful German company who wanted sole access to the material. It got nasty and the gem rough ceased coming to market.
